Top franchises likely to bid big for Rishabh Pant in IPL auction
Tumblr media
The exit of Rishabh Pant from Delhi Capitals ahead of 2025 IPL auction
Rishabh Pant’s journey with Delhi Capitals saw a significant turning point in 2021 when he assumed the captaincy in Shreyas Iyer’s absence. DC retained Pant as captain during the IPL 2022 mega auction, releasing Iyer, who subsequently joined KKR and led them the following year. Pant captained Delhi in IPL 2022 but missed the 2023 season as he recovered from several injuries that he sustained during an unfortunate car accident. After his recovery, Pant returned to lead the team in IPL 2024.
However, after IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals experienced major internal changes. Ricky Ponting, the head coach, moved to Punjab Kings, while Sourav Ganguly took a sabbatical following the GMR group’s takeover of team operations from JSW for the next two years. Speculation about Pant’s release began circulating after Ponting’s exit. Reports soon surfaced that while DC was willing to retain Rishabh Pant as a player, they wanted a new captain. Pant, however, was firm on retaining his leadership role. This misalignment led to his release, making him one of the hottest picks for the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Franchises likely to bid for Rishabh Pant in IPL auction
Punjab Kings
With the largest auction budget of Rs 110.5 crore, Punjab Kings have released their entire squad, barring uncapped players Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. The team is keen on rebuilding from scratch and is likely to make a strong bid for Pant in the IPL auction. Moreover, PBKS is in need of a captaincy pick following the retirement of Shikhar Dhawan. Punjab’s new head coach, Ricky Ponting, who shares a successful history with Pant from their Delhi Capitals days, is expected to champion the effort to bring him into the fold.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore, armed with Rs 83 crore, has the second-highest budget for the IPL auction. With Dinesh Karthik no longer in their squad, they are in need of a wicketkeeper-batter, and Pant fits the bill perfectly. While RCB hasn’t retained Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli has expressed interest in reclaiming the captaincy, which could work as a middle ground for Pant. Even if not given the leadership, Pant may relish the chance to play under Kohli’s guidance.
Chennai Super Kings
Although Chennai Super Kings have a smaller auction purse of Rs 55 crore, they are rumoured to be considering Pant. Speculation arose after former CSK player Suresh Raina hinted at a possible connection between Pant and MS Dhoni. However, given Pant’s likely price tag of Rs 18–20 crore, CSK might find it challenging to compete financially in the IPL auction. Moreover, with Ruturaj Gaikwad only recently stepping into the captaincy role, CSK is unlikely to offer Pant the leadership position, leaving questions about whether they would prioritize signing him.

[ad_1] Rohit Sharma in Pune Test vs NZ (PC: BCCI) There is no question that Rohit Sharma has not been at his best in red-ball cricket in recent times. Compared to the Rohit we saw in England in 2021, the Indian skipper seems to be in a hurry each time he is out there in the middle. It is as if he is bringing his white-ball approach to the red-ball game, blazing away from ball one to try and get himself out of the rut. Maybe that’s where he needs to take a step back and pause. Ask himself what worked for him in red-ball cricket in tough batting conditions. How many balls did he leave in England in that 2021 series, where he was clearly India’s best batter? What was his approach then, and what has changed since? Soon after coming back from England in 2021, Rohit joined the Mumbai Indians camp for the IPL. And in one of the net sessions, he was batting under the watchful eyes of Mahela Jayawardene. At one point, by Rohit’s own admission, Mahela walked up to him to remind him that he was back to playing white-ball cricket and there was no need to leave so many balls outside off stump. Mentally, Rohit was still in England, and the red-ball mindset. Leaving balls outside the off stump had become second habit, and it was all in his mind. He was doing so naturally, for it had been internalised during the tour of England. That’s what Test match batting is all about. Leave balls outside off stump, if needed. Take your time and build an innings. In Australia, that’s what Rohit will need to do. A few quick runs won’t help India. A big knock would. And that can happen only if Rohit can go back to the mindset that helped him be the red-ball opener that he was in England in 2021. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Rohit Sharma (PC: X) With leadership weighing on his mind, whether he can do that is the question. Can he reinvent himself one more time? Ahead of the 2023 World Cup, Rohit did so mentally. From a conventional approach, he decided to take the bowlers head on and make a statement. It worked superbly for India and set the tone. He followed the same template in the T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean, and his innings of 90 off 40 balls against Australia was evidence of this changed approach. But then, that’s white-ball cricket and it can’t consistently work in the red-ball format. That’s where Rohit needs one more reinvention. Get himself mentally ready for Australia. Be prepared to look ugly, and take a few blows on the body. Play and miss a few times, but don’t give up. If India are to make a statement yet again in Australia, Rohit will have to lead from the front. In 2018, Virat Kohli played extremely well as skipper. In 2021, it was Ajinkya Rahane who played a series-defining knock in Melbourne. Each time, it was the leader who made a telling difference. This time round, it has to be Rohit. To do so, he needs to be mentally in sync with what is needed. Make the adjustment, and go about his business. Scoring runs will make him a better leader, and that’s what India will hope for come the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Not KKR, Rahul Dravid Set To Seal His IPL Return With This Franchise
After successfully guiding the Indian team to T20 World Cup 2024 triumph as head coach, Rahul Dravid is reportedly gearing up for a new adventure in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since his tenure as the head coach of the Indian team came to an end, Dravid has been linked with multiple franchises in the T20 league. Earlier, reports suggested that the batting great could decide to join Kolkata Knight Riders, especially as the franchise saw their mentor Gautam Gambhir leave the team to fill the void left by Dravid in the Indian team as head coach. But, it has now been reported that Dravid is in talks with his former IPL side Rajasthan Royals.
Tumblr media
"Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is round the corner," Times of India quoted a source as saying.
As Dravid hunts for a new adventure, Gambhir has begun his stint as the Indian team's head coach. He flew to Sri Lanka with the other members of the Indian team ahead of the white-ball assignment. Before the team's departure, Gambhir did admit he has some big shoes to fill, considering what Dravid has done with the Indian team as head coach.
As India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 title, beating South Africa in the final, Dravid did joke about being 'jobless' from the next month, and asked reporters if they had any offers. A man of the talent of Dravid, and the gold-worthy experience in Indian cricket, franchises are understandably lining up to rope him into the team.
Dravid didn't want to continue as the Indian team's head coach as he didn't want to spend 10 months a year travelling, keeping himself away from the family. But, the Indian Premier League is different. In the T20 league, Dravid only needs to be with the franchise for 2-3 months a year, a prospect he could fancy.
The former India captain has worked as a mentor and coach with IPL franchises in the past. Dravid was the coach of Delhi Daredevils franchise before leaving the job in 2017 over 'conflict of interest'. Since ending his IPL career, Dravid has worked as the coach of India's junior teams, including Under-19 and India A.
He was most recently working as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before taking up the India job in 2021.
Now linked with the Rajasthan Royals, it would be interesting to see on what capacity would the former India head coach work with the franchise.

"Love To Look At Things In Positive Manner": Sanju Samson Ahead Of ICC T20 WC 2024 Opener
Ahead of their opener against Ireland in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson said that he positively looks at things while reflecting on failures and successes in his career.
Samson, who made his international debut in 2014 in a T20I match, has had ups and downs, having played just 25 T20Is and 16 ODIs for India over the last decade.
His T20 stats have been disappointing as he has scored just 374 runs at an average of 18.70 with one half-century. a strike rate of 133.09 and the best score of 77.
Samson has made his way into the T20 WC squad after a career-best Indian Premier League (IPL) which helped take Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the playoffs. He scored 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.46, with five half-centuries. His best score was 86*.
The Kerala-born cricketer asserted that at the time when a cricketer is young and successful, he tries to skip a few lessons.
"I love to look at things in a more positive manner. If it's a failure or setback, you learn through it. When you are young and successful, you skip a few lessons. I am blessed with my talent, which comes naturally to me as a batter" Samson said in a video posted by BCCI.
The 29-year-old further stated that right from the moment he arrived in the United States, he had taken out all the things regarding Indian Premier which is in his mind.
"Right from the moment I landed here, IPL has been away from my mind. I tell myself that I am somewhere where people dream of going. Then I was like, what else do I need to do? Mentally I did not have to motivate myself. Things happen automatically. When you meet Rohit and Virat, you get inspired and there is no looking back. How can Sanju help India win more games, what it is like to be a WC player for India? I am very grateful for the support wherever I go," the wicketkeeper added.
In the end, Samson said that he loves to change and adapt according to the conditions.
"The biggest lesson as a cricketer and human is that the change is constant. You cannot say that this is the only way to play. I love to change and adapt as per conditions. You can't be the same Sanju Samson," the right-hand batter concluded.
India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
The blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. India will later play tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to wrap up their Group A matches.
In the tournament, India will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022 but failed to secure a big ICC trophy.

India ‘A’ Selection Is Good Opportunity For Upendra Yadav, Kumar Kushagra: Ajay Ratra
Tumblr media
With KS Bharat: With KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel selected in the Test squad for the first two games against England at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, Kumar Kushagra and Upendra Yadav were recently included in the India ‘A’ team for the second and third four-day games against England Lions in Ahmedabad. While Upendra was a member of India ‘A’ team on their tour of South Africa in 2021, Kushagra has been handed a maiden call-up to the squad. Former India wicketkeeper-batter Ajay Ratra believes the duo are on the radar of the selection committee, resulting in their selection for India ‘A’ team. "India ‘A’ is your second-best Test team and with them being selected for those games, it means that the selectors and team management are keeping an eye on those two, based on their domestic performances for a long time. There’s a lot of cricket happening and it’s great that those two wicketkeepers are getting a chance to play in this format," he said in an exclusive conversation with IANS. With Rishabh Pant still recovering from injuries sustained in a horrific car accident in December 2022, India has fielded three different wicketkeepers in Test cricket since February 2023 – Bharat, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. Bharat had been in the ‘A’ team set-up for a long time before graduating to the Test level, while Rahul has been the primary wicketkeeper in ODIs and even donned the gloves for the Test tour of South Africa. Kishan has been on a mental health break from the game since December 2023 while Jurel was given a Test call-up, based on his good showings in domestic cricket and India ‘A’ games. Hence, the call-ups of Kushagra and Upendra to the India ‘A’ team have two aims – of expanding the wicketkeeper pool in senior men’s cricket and give the ‘A’ level exposure to youngsters like Kushagra and Upendra. When Kushagra’s India ‘A’ call-up came, the wicketkeeper-batter converted his overnight score of an unbeaten fifty into a fine 132 for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy match against Services at the Airforce Complex Ground in Palam, New Delhi. Last month, Kushagra had earned an astonishing INR 7.2 crore deal with Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2024 Player Auction in Dubai. Ratra, who played six Tests and 12 ODIs for India, recalled seeing Kushagra as a young keeper a few years ago at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. “I still remember about doing an U16 camp with Kumar Kushagra in Bengaluru. The way he showcased his glovework at the U16 level, it made for a very impressive look.” "The NCA has a lot of camps going on in a year and at that time, he was at the U16 level. Someone like Jayant Yadav was at the NCA for rehab or practice and he needed a wicketkeeper to do his bowling practice. "We then sent Kumar for helping him and even though it was a practice session happening, he was catching balls at ease and gathered the deliveries very well. Seeing that, I got a feeling that he would be a decent keeper and has now done well at the domestic level." On the other hand, Upendra is a big-hitting wicket-keeper who has kept wickets and got big runs for Uttar Pradesh and Railways in first-class cricket. "I haven’t seen much of Upendra, but have heard a lot about him and read about his scores too. So, the India ‘A’ selection is a good opportunity for them and the way Dhruv Jurel entered India ‘A’ setup before getting the Test call-up, they can take inspiration from it." "If an overseas series comes up and whether India would take KL Rahul as a keeper there, there’s some time to it. But India ‘A’ selection is a good opportunity for both Upendra Yadav and Kumar Kushagra," concluded Ratra. Read the full article

Major League Cricket: Igniting Future of Cricket in the USA
Cricket is a popular sport in many parts of the world, but it has not yet reached its full potential in the United States. The introduction of Major League Cricket (MLC) is set to change that.
How MLC is Igniting the Future of Cricket in the USA
Major league cricket is igniting the future of cricket in the USA in a number of ways.
First, the league is bringing together some of the biggest names in cricket to play in the USA. This will help to raise the profile of the sport in the country and attract new fans. Big players like Martin Guptill (New Zealand), Rilee Rossouw (South Africa), Jason Roy (England), Sunil Narine (West Indies), Andre Russell (West Indies), Devon Conway (New Zealand), Dwayne Bravo (West Indies), Mitchell Santner (New Zealand), Nicholas Pooran (West Indies), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Kieron Pollard (West Indies), Trent Boult (New Zealand), Kagiso Rabada (South Africa), Matthew Wade (Australia), Aaron Finch (Australia), Marcus Stoinis (Australia), Quinton de Kock (South Africa), Heinrich Klaasen (South Africa), Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies),Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka), Mitchell Marsh (Australia), Anrich Nortje (South Africa) etc.
Second, MLC is investing heavily in marketing and promotion. The league is working to reach out to new audiences and introduce them to the excitement of cricket.
Third, MLC is creating a world-class cricket infrastructure in the USA. The league is building new stadiums and training facilities that will help to grow the sport in the country. In May 2022, Major League Cricket announced it had acquired funds of $120 million and much more after.
As a result of these efforts, MLC is manage to make a major impact on cricket in the USA. The league has the potential to transform the sport in the country and make it a major force in American sports industry.
Introduction: Major League Cricket
Major League Cricket (MLC) is an American professional Twenty20 cricket league. It started play on July 13, 2023, with six teams representing significant American cities and was run by American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) under a single-entity format only.
Major League Cricket’s inaugural season was played over three weeks in July 2023, with games at Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina.
In 2018, USA Cricket sought partners to launch a domestic T20 league by 2021, with the aim of engaging existing fans, growing new ones and developing cricketing infrastructure across the country. In 2019, USA Cricket accepted a $1 billion investment from American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) to support the league and the U.S. national teams. American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), a group of investors led by Satyan Gajwani and Vineet Jain of The Times Group and Sameer Mehta and Vijay Srinivasan of Willow TV will handle commercial activities for T20I and ODI matches hosted by the United States.
In October 2020, USA Cricket announced that it would launch Major League Cricket in 2022, as part of its “foundational plan” for 2020–23. The following month, the IPL’s Kolkata Knight Riders (co-owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan) announced that they would invest in American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), the company behind Major League Cricket.
Minor League Cricket Youth and Major League Cricket Youth leagues, coupled with an MLC Jr. Championship and player development program would serve as a development structure for younger players to advance toward Major League Cricket and the national squad. These leagues were announced by the MLC in February 2021. Major League Cricket’s debut was postponed to 2023 in May owing to COVID-19 and to give more time to build facilities.
It was announced in November 2022 that the inaugural MLC season will take place at Grand Prairie Stadium from July 13–30, 2023. Six franchises will play 15 league matches in a single round-robin format during the competition, followed by a four-match play-off phase.

The Ashes is the most popular and fantastic cricket league. And the most amazing thing is that this is the favourite cricket league of the players, as they feel it is more exciting to play big games in it. According to past records, the entire team of Australia celebrated their victory in the 2021–22 Ashes series. The Australians have generated a 4-0 victory against England.
Ahead of the five-test Ashes series, the England side is all looking forward to playing such an amazing game to win the series against the champions team. At the same time, England looks very excited to play such a powerful game at home. And under Ben Stokes, the teams will definitely bring some great results at the end. However, the popular cricketer of England, Moeen Ali, has announced his retirement from the test series ahead of the Ashes in 2023.
To defeat Australia, the England team must implement its plan.
The English team looks focused while playing in any cricket tournament. But the biggest failure they got was in the Ashes only. But the most amazing thing is that they also learn from their mistakes. However, continuous effort is the key to success.
Australia are the greatest competitors, and to dismiss them, England needs to observe their opponents playing styles. Later on, they should focus on their teams and play systematically in the test competition. However, the men’s teams of both sides will make sure to entertain their audiences with their performances. Tata IPL2023
Tumblr media
The 2023 mega auction of the IPL took place in Bengaluru in December. The most expensive player was Sam Curran, bought by Punjab Kings for ₹18.50 crore (US$2.3 million), the most-paid player in the history of the league. Ahead of the auction, all the IPL franchises published their list of retained players in November 2022. Some of the big names that were retained in the 2023 edition include MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, Glenn Maxwell, Andre Russell, and Jasprit Bumrah. Gujarat Titans are the defending champions.
Tata Group retains as the title sponsor of IPL 2023
The IPL Governing Council announced the new IPL season after the IPL 2023 auction was completed. Aside from the promise to be bigger, better, and more enthralling, Tata Group was announced as the new title sponsor for the Indian Premier League. Tata Group replaces Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo as the title sponsor for the IPL 2022 and 2023 editions. In 2018, Vivo came on board as the title sponsor till 2022; however, due to tensions at the border, the contract with Vivo was paused in 2020.
New rules in Tata IPL 2023
The BCCI stated that it "will preserve IPL's position at the forefront of innovative cricket and continue the growth of the T20 format" in a memo announcing the new umpire signal and rules of the Impact Player.
The BCCI has informed franchises that following the toss, as was recently implemented in SA20, captains may select their playing XI. Before the toss, the captains were required to declare the starting Eleven. Expanding the DRS's scope to include wide balls and no balls is another new regulation. The rules of the game specify that "a player may also be permitted to review any decision made by on-field umpires concerning wide or no ball."
The Biggest Change in This IPL is the introduction of Impact Player. This is how the rule will play out. According to the BCCI, “The captain will identify the impact player to the umpire, and the umpire will signal in the manner as depicted in the above image indicating that the Impact player is being introduced. Teams can name four substitutes, or impact players, in their squad for a match in addition to my playing 11. One of these may be used as a substitute during the match.
It adds, "The Impact Player can be introduced (i) before the start of the innings; or (ii) after completion of an over; or (iii) in case of a batter, at the fall of the wicket or the batter retiring at any time during the over (as provided in Clause 1.8 (iv) below). The bowling team can also get an Impact Player during the fall of the wicket, but that Impact Player will not be permitted to bowl the remaining balls in that over if the wicket has fallen mid-over."
Changed Format- 10 clubs divided into two groups
IPL 2023 Format: The IPL 2023 edition will follow the same format as last year, but the venues will change. The IPL 2023 format details are as follows:

Each team competes in 14 games during the group stage, playing the other four teams in their group twice (once at home and once away), the other four teams once, and the remaining team twice. IPL Points Table System: A team that wins a game receives 2 points. There will be no points awarded to the losing team. In the event of a tie or a deadlock, both teams will receive one point.
After the group stage, a four-game playoff series using the Page playoff system is played. In the playoffs, there will be four games played:
First qualifying round: the matchup between the top two teams from the group stage.
Between the groups' third and fourth-placed teams, in the elimination round.
